PAUS Dump Truck PMKT on its way up21.06.2010
PAUS Dump Truck PMKT on its way up

Ensuring the power supply for the future in Northeast and Central Switzerland – this is what the giant construction project of the hydropower plant in the mountains on the Limmernsee is aiming at.

Early this year, three PAUS Dump Trucks type PMKT 10000 have already been delivered for the construction of the power plant Linth-Limmern. The site located on Limmernsee and Muttsee can only be reached via a material haulage system. For transporting the machines from Tierfehd to Kalktrittli - located 1055 m above Tierfehd – the skip of the PMKT was fixed to the material haulage system and brought up to an altitude of 1860 m. The carrier vehicle was taken there in a second step. On this huge construction site, the vehicles are used primarily for developing the infrastructure in the access galleries.
Project “Linthal 2015” in the canton Glarus has a significant meaning for the power supply in Switzerland. Today’s facilities of the power plant Linth-Limmern provide an electricity-production capacity of approximately 340 megawatt. The enlargement of the power plant is assumed to achieve a capacity about 1340 megawatt.
A new underground pumped-storage plant is supposed to pump water from the Limmernsee to the Muttsee located 630 m above, and - if the need arises – it will be used for the generation of electricity again. For this purpose, a new cavern control centre is built which will be located at an altitude of 1700 m and about 600 m inside the mountains. PAUS Dump Trucks PMKT 10000 are the perfect solution for the operation in these narrow galleries: the machines PMKT 8000 – 12000 provide great payloads combined with small widths from 1.9 to 2.3 m, so two vehicles can go past each other even in extremely narrow places. When driving into the tunnel the driver can overlook the skip and has free view to the underground roadway ahead. If the skip is loaded, the driver may easily and quickly turn his seat to the oppositely arranged driver’s stand and leave the tunnel accordingly. Thus, possible turning manoeuvres in narrow mines and tunnels are no longer necessary.
PAUS Dump Trucks, type PMKT, are built with extremely rugged and strong components; the air- or fluid-cooled engines are available in compliance with the exhaust gas emission standard EURO III.
