PAUS supplies mining machines to Schacht Konrad
Already in 2009, Hermann Paus Maschinenfabrik GmbH based in the region of the Emsland won the tender for the supply of 20 mining vehicles – in particular dump trucks, loaders and machines for gallery protection – to Schacht Konrad (a nuclear waste deposit) near Salzgitter.
The great experience in manufacturing mining machines for special demands and the excellent flexibility of the company, apparently made Hermann Paus Maschinenfabrik GmbH win the Europe-wide tender procedure.
The company could meet best the high constructional demands, involving very low method of construction combined with high payloads.
All machines – each having a weight up to 30 tons – will be finished in the plant by midyear; then, the vehicles will be disassembled and transported to Schacht Konrad. Through a very narrow access opening, the single components of the machines will be let down into the mine where they will be reassembled again.
“Just now in the difficult economic situation, this order is of great importance for us”, the managing directors Franz-Josef und Wolfgang Paus report. “In order to win the tender we also had to meet the special requirements concerning documentation and quality. So this makes us look ahead in a very positive way, because by developing and manufacturing the machines for Schacht Konrad we have proven our skills and qualification for further projects.”
For example, two machines for “residual-cavity filling” were supplied which are based on the pushwall-slinger technology developed by PAUS 25 years ago. Producing high kinetic energy, a slinger belt in the back of the vehicle puts the material in place ensuring solid backfill that is flush to the gallery roof.
